Solar electricity panels, also known as photovoltaics (PV), capture energy from the sun and convert it into electricity. Solar PV cells are made from layers of semi-conducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the material, electrons are knocked loose from the atoms, which creates a flow of electricity. While these cells don’t need direct sunlight to work, they perform better in sunshine. That means the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is generated.

Cut your electricity bills

Once you have paid for your solar panel installation, you’ll be able to generate your own electricity for your home for years to come, which could help lower your energy bills

Reduce your carbon footprint

Solar energy is one of the cleanest and most sustainable ways to generate electricity, producing zero greenhouse gases. Every unit of energy generated by solar panels means one unit less of high carbon electricity produced by fossil fuels.

Get paid for energy you generate

At certain times, your solar panels may produce more energy than your home uses. When you do generate surplus energy, rather than going to waste, it will be exported to the grid. With the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme, anyone who produces more energy than they use will receive payments for the surplus.
